Vegas predicts Raptors will be worse next season

The Toronto Raptors are coming off a season in which they exceeded expectations and finished with the fifth-best record in the NBA's Eastern Conference at 48-34.

Vegas is expecting the Raptors to take a small step backwards in 2022-23, setting the club's Over/Under win total at 44.5 for the upcoming campaign. Toronto is sandwiched between the New Orleans Pelicans (43.5) and Atlanta Hawks and Dallas Mavericks (47.5).

It should be noted these numbers are subject to change based on how the rest of the offseason plays out. For example, if the Raptors end up acquiring Kevin Durant from the Brooklyn Nets, their projected win total would figure to increase significantly.

Toronto's relatively low Over/Under total is surprising given the team's youth. Further development from the likes of Scottie Barnes, OG Anunoby, Gary Trent Jr. and Precious Achiuwa would raise the team's ceiling, while veteran stars Pascal Siakam and Fred VanVleet give the Raptors a reliable floor.

The Raptors have consistently hit the Over on Vegas's totals in recent history, exceeding the estimated mark nine times in the past 10 seasons. The only year Under bettors would have cashed was in 2020-21, when the Raptors played their home games in Tampa Bay, Fla.
