On December 31, news broke that the beloved Golden Girls actress had died at the age of 99, three weeks shy of her 100th birthday. In honor of Betty's incredible eight-decade career, Valerie is taking a trip down memory lane to relive special moments she shared in the kitchen with the late actress.
Valerie first met Betty in 2010 when they starred together on the TV Land sitcom Hot in Cleveland, which ran through 2015. Shortly after the hit show aired its sixth and final season, Valerie launched her own cooking show, Valerie’s Home Cooking, on the Food Network channel. To kick off the series, she hosted a reunion with her former Hot in Cleveland costars Betty, Jane Leeves and Wendie Malick. She made them lunch featuring dishes inspired after each of them. The menu included Betty’s favorite Italian tuna salad. Betty returned with her fellow Hot in Cleveland costars for season 3 of Valerie's show in the summer of 2016.
But in case fans missed these special episodes (and can't watch them on Amazon), Valerie revealed on Instagram that there’s another chance to see them. The episodes will re-air back to back on January 9, 2022 at 8 a.m. ET. To celebrate, Valerie posted a few rare photos, featuring Betty, from the cooking show set.
“Oh my gosh, I’m so happy about this! ☺️,” Valerie wrote in part on Instagram. “@Foodnetwork has agreed to re-air TWO #ValeriesHomeCooking episodes with my #HotinCleveland girls, the lovely angel @BettyWhite, @officialjaneleeves, and @wendiemalik! ✨ … It will be a bit of a beautiful flashback, so be sure to tune.”
After seeing Valerie’s touching Instagram post, fans immediately took to the comments section to express their love of the show and Betty.
“Fantastic! Saw these episodes first time, terrific! Will be watching again!! ❤️❤️,” one person wrote. “Oh Valerie … that will be an amazing, beautiful tribute to her!! Definitely tuning in to rewatch her. 😢💔,” another added. “This is fabulous! 👏 Carry on her legacy of zest and enthusiasm for life and to not let age define you! You are a beautiful lady inside and out just like Betty was! 🙌👏😍 ,” a different fan said.
In November, Valerie opened up on the Today show about meeting Betty and filming the pilot of Hot in Cleveland. Simply put, Valerie understands why fans adore Betty.
"I think Betty is beloved by fans because you can just feel how kind she is. She can be wicked funny and say something that’s cutting in such a funny way but she can get away with that because she’s just so kind," Valerie explained. "She’s just one of the kindest people I have ever known."
