Vaccines and oxygen flown to India

Ventilators and vials of COVID-19 drug Remdesivir were flown in from Canada while oxygen cannulas and cylinders came from Austria and the Czech Republic.

Hospitals in the capital and across the country have been turning away patients after running out of medical oxygen and beds.

Remdesivir is approved in India for restricted emergency use to treat severe COVID-19 cases, despite the World Health Organisation advising against using the drug due to doubts about its effectiveness in treating the infection.
