Nissan to call off Honda merger talks, Nikkei says
TOKYO (Reuters) -Japan's Nissan will call off merger talks with rival Honda, the Nikkei newspaper said, abandoning a tie-up that would have created the world's no.3 automaker and raising questions about how it will drive a turnaround by itself. Shares in Nissan slid more than 4% before trade was temporarily suspended by the Tokyo Stock Exchange following the report. Shares of Honda continued to trade and finished the day up more than 8%, in a sign of apparent investor relief that the deal would be scrapped.

USPS has suspended parcels from Hong Kong and China. Here's what it means for Shein and Temu
Americans are likely to pay more for products from popular Chinese e-commerce platforms like Shein and Temu as the U.S. Postal Service said it would stop accepting parcels from China and Hong Kong. The move was announced Tuesday, coming after the U.S. imposed an additional 10% tariff on Chinese goods and ended a customs exception that allowed small value parcels to enter the U.S. without paying tax. Canada and Mexico managed to negotiate a month-long reprieve from 25% tariffs threatened by U.S. President Donald Trump.

'Godfather' of AI warns arms race risks amplifying dangers of 'superhuman' systems
Canadian machine learning pioneer Yoshua Bengio, author of the first International AI Safety Report to be presented at an international AI summit in Paris next week, warns unchecked investment in computational power for AI without oversight is dangerous. "The effort is going into who's going to win the race, rather than how do we make sure we are not going to build something that blows up in our face," Mr Bengio says. Mr Bengio worked on neural networks and machine learning, the software architecture that underpins modern AI models.

Swedish police warn of online misinformation after mass school shooting
OREBRO, Sweden (Reuters) -Swedish police said on Wednesday there was no evidence of "ideological motives" behind a mass shooting at an adult education centre on Tuesday, and warned of misinformation spread on social media about the Nordic country's deadliest gun attack. At least 11 people died and many others were wounded in the shooting at the Risbergska school in Orebro, a town of over 100,000 people, where large numbers of police continued to cordon off the centre and several schools located on its campus complex. "We want to be clear that based on investigative and intelligence information at present, there is no information pointing to the culprit acting on ideological motives," police said in a brief statement on its website.
