President-elect Donald Trump said on Saturday the U.S. should not be involved in the conflict in Syria, where rebel forces are threatening the government of President Bashar al-Assad. Trump said because Russia, an Assad ally, is tied up fighting a war with Ukraine it "seems incapable of stopping this literal march through Syria, a country they have protected for years."

STORY: ::Part of a Dutch apartment building collapses after an explosion::December 7, 2024::The Hague, Netherlands "On the other side of the street I heard children screaming: 'Help, help, help'. And my neighbor went there to try to save the children. But I don't know what happened to the children. I have no idea.""Black smoke, fire...and finally I saw the building sink. It was unstable, the explosion had already happened. But within 30 seconds you saw the building collapse. Panic. There was fire everywhere. People ran to it, tried to help.""At around 6:15 a.m. a three-story apartment building partially collapsed and a fire broke out," the Hague fire department said in a statement. A fire brigade spokesperson said at least four people were sent to hospital with injuries, but that more victims were expected to be under the rubble of the collapsed building. Their conditions were not known.Local residents described a scene of panic, with a loud explosion rocking the area, black smoke and fire rising from the scene followed by screams for help.There was no immediate indication of the cause.Prime Minister Dick Schoof said in a statement he was shocked by images of the disaster and had offered assistance to local authorities.
