‘This Is Us’ to End With Season 6 on NBC

“This Is Us” will officially end its run on NBC after Season 6, Variety has confirmed with sources.

Season 5 of the series is currently airing, with Season 6 set to begin shooting this summer for a debut during the 2021-2022 broadcast season. The hit family drama was renewed through Season 6 back in 2019 while the third season was airing. The creative team behind the show has previously said on multiple occassions that they planned to wrap the show up with its sixth outing.

“This Is Us” has been a smash hit for NBC right out of the gate, with the show racking up impressive ratings and critical acclaim from the time it launched. It follows the Pearson family across the multiple decades of their lives. It stars Milo Ventimiglia, Mandy Moore, Sterling K. Brown, Chrissy Metz, and Justin Hartley in the main roles. Susan Kelechi Watson, Chris Sullivan, Jon Huertas, Hannah Zeile, Niles Fitch, Logan Shroyer, Mackenzie Hancsicsak, Parker Bates, Lonnie Chavis, Faithe Herman, Eris Baker, Lyric Ross, Asante Blackk and Griffin Dunne also star in the series.

Dan Fogelman created the series and serves as executive producer along Isaac Aptaker, Elizabeth Berger, John Requa, Glenn Ficarra, Ken Olin, Charlie Gogolak, Jess Rosenthal, and Steve Beers. Aptaker and Berger serve as co-showrunners. 20th Television produces.

News of “This Is Us” ending comes just days ahead of NBC’s announcement of its 2021 fall schedule, which is set to happen on Friday. NBC has also already made several series pickups for next season. Those include a new “Law & Order” series set in a criminal defense firm that hails from franchise steward Dick Wolf and Carol Mendelsohn of “CSI” fame. Other series orders include the comedies “American Auto” and “Grand Crew” as well as the dramas “Ordinary Joe” and “La Brea.”
