'I WON THE ELECTION': Donald Trump issues scathing message after Biden wins U.S. election

Donald Trump is claiming he “won the election” after it was announced by several news outlets that Democratic nominee Joe Biden has secured a win with at least 270 electoral votes.

Polls for the 2020 U.S. Election originally closed Nov. 3, but due to a historic voting turnout and an increase in mail-in ballots amid the COVID-19 pandemic, a projected winner was finally announced Saturday. Biden clinched a victory after he secured Pennsylvania’s electoral votes, giving him a total of 284 at the time, compared to Trump’s 214.

However, the Republican nominee is claiming in a statement that the “election is far from over,” as he refuses to concede to Biden.

“We all know why Joe Biden is rushing to falsely pose as the winner, and why his media allies are trying so hard to help him: they don’t want the truth to be exposed,” said Trump. “Legal votes decide who is president, not the news media.”

Trump continues to allege that there’s been widespread fraud and misconduct throughout the election process. There’s particularly been an emphasis on scrutinizing mail-in ballots, which have helped Biden secure a lead in key states such as Pennsylvania days into the election process.

In his statement, Trump said that on Monday his campaign will start prosecuting their case in court. He said that in Pennsylvania, his team was “not permitted meaningful access to watch the counting process.” No proof of fraud has been presented by the Trump campaign.

“It remains shocking that the Biden campaign refuses to agree with this basic principle and wants ballots counted even if they are fraudulent, manufactured, or cast by ineligible or deceased voters,” said Trump, who originally declared himself the winner in the early hours of Nov. 4.

Biden addressed America on Saturday night, preaching a message of unity, particularly with those who have voted for Trump, asking that they “give each other a chance.” The soon-to-be president also showed confidence in the voting process and ultimately the result.

“The people have spoken,” Biden said Saturday night. “They delivered us a clear victory, a convincing victory, a victory for we the people. We've won with the most votes ever cast for a presidential ticket in the history of the nation.

“I must admit it surprised me; tonight, we're seeing all over this nation, all cities in all parts of the country — indeed across the world — an outpouring of joy, a renewed faith in tomorrow that we’ll bring a better day.”
