UNLV wearing special helmets to honor shooting victims (Photo)

UNLV is three miles from the hotel where a gunman opened fire Sunday night on a country music concert on the Strip.

UNLV football will have a tribute Saturday to all of those involved in the mass shooting in Las Vegas on Sunday night.

The school is designating the game vs. San Diego State as “Heroes Night” and wearing these helmets:

“Our thoughts and prayers continue to be with the victims and the families impacted by this senseless act of violence,” Director of Athletics Desiree Reed-Francois said. “While football is just a game, it can also serve as a rallying point of unity and allow all of us to recognize the incredible heroism displayed by so many this week. We are all extremely proud of our community’s response over the last couple of days.”

Fifty-nine people at a music festival were killed when Steven Paddock opened fire from his 32nd-story hotel room at the Mandalay Bay Hotel and Casino onto the crowd below with semi-automatic weapons. Hundreds others were injured.

Nevada will also wear a helmet decal for the rest of the season.

Police released bodycam footage from their response to the attacks Sunday night.
