Unique Sacramento events this weekend: Banana Fest, Foodieland and dog treats

Here’s what’s happening the weekend of Aug. 19 to 21 around Sacramento.

FRIDAY

Sample every dish and post it

1600 Exposition Blvd, Sacramento

Foodieland Night Market will take place at CalExpo all weekend, Friday through Sunday. Friday’s market will begin at 3 p.m. and end at 10 p.m. Saturday and Sunday hours are 1 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The entry fee is $5 for adults and free for children under 5 years old. Tickets are available online, and will not be sold at the door.

Parking is $10 per vehicle.

Scour Sacramento streets

1121 15th Street, Sacramento

Amazing Scavenger Hunt Adventure starts on Capitol Avenue and ends in Old Town Sacramento. Groups of two to five people are able to participate in a two-mile, two-hour scavenger hunt. The company offers customers 17 challenges and four potential bonuses.

Tickets cost $49 per team of two to five people, according to the website.

SATURDAY

A banana festival

1401 Sutterville Road, Sacramento

The Banana Fest will take place in William Land Park on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m, according to Eventbrite.

The 11th annual Banana Festival to celebrate “Asia, Africa, and the Americas that use the banana as a source of food, art, and culture”, according to the Sojourner Truth African Heritage Museum in the description of the event. The proceeds go towards the National Academic Youth Corps, a non-profit organization.

Ticket prices for adults are $8 online, and $10 at the gate. Children, seniors, and those with military ID can get tickets for $6 in advance or $8 at the gate. Kids under 5 years old get in free.

Some of the attractions include a fashion show, carnival rides and live bands.

SUNDAY

Grab treats for you and your dog

1510 16th Street #300, Sacramento

Dogs eat free at University of Beer, according to the restaurant’s post on Eventbrite. This is a recurring event on Saturdays and Sundays from 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Customers must be seated in the patio to receive a free “doggie food bowl” when you dine in and buy a regularly priced burger, sandwich, wrap, signature dish or full portion salad. Your dog must be with you.

Get ahead on back-to-school shopping

9040 High Tech Court, Elk Grove

The Sacramento Asian Sports Foundation is hosting the Elk Grove Community PopUP Kid’s Sale on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.

On the website, the creators also call this event the “Just Between Friends Elk Grove Fall Sale.” In an effort to save parents money, the sale will include items like clothes, shoes, books, toys and baby gear.

Tickets are free to public shoppers.

There are four categories of pre-sale shopping tickets for those who want first pick at the market’s selection, according to the event’s website.
