Unforgotten is carrying on with series 5, despite the series 4 finale killing off one of its lead characters in Nicola Walker's Cassie Stuart.

We know that Sanjeev Bhaskar's Sunny Khan is getting paired up with a new female detective, but one thing we were wondering is how much time would pass between stories. Will the show examine his grief in the immediate aftermath of Cassie's death, or jump ahead and show the long term effects?

As it turns out, it's the former. Bhaskar spoke to Radio Times about the upcoming series and revealed: "The story will pick up not long after the end of the last story, so there is a connection to that story.

"Chris Lang, who has written all of them, has written this one," he added. "So yeah, it's very exciting reading the scripts, a bit weird not to see Nicola's character there, but I saw Nicola two, three times, I suppose, in the last couple of months, over Christmas. So we keep in touch a lot anyway."

We are sure that plenty of people will be worried about what the show will be like undergoing such a big change, Bhaskar has a message to reassure them.

"Given that in series 1, I and nobody else had any idea of how this would work out in terms of, you know, the castings, the writing and the directing, I go into series 5 with a lot of faith in whoever's coming in," he said.
