Admiral McRaven shares his daily habits for success
In the debut episode of Warrior Money, Admiral Bill McRaven shared the habit that help him achieve success on a daily basis. “It turns out, I do get up every morning and make my bed,” McRaven said, referencing his viral 2014 commencement speech in which he told graduates that the first step to changing the world is “making your bed.” McRaven later turned the advice into a book, also titled Make Your Bed. “As strange as it sounds,” he added. “There is something reassuring about it.” The retired four-star Navy admiral also offered some insight on a crucial trait for being a good leader, recalling Sgt. Major Chris Faris, whom he worked with at both the Joint Special Operations Command and US Special Operations Command. “We would get into heated conversations about decisions I was about to make, but when he left my office, he owned that decision. There was no rolling of eyes,” he explained. “If they don’t own the decision that the commander makes, then the troops probably aren’t going to follow it.” Admiral McRaven shared these tips on the premiere episode of Yahoo Finance's Warrior Money, hosted by former Congressman Patrick Murphy and veteran investor Dan Kunze.
