UK Covid LIVE: Major vaccines milestone reached as government ‘confident’ about July 19 reopening

The UK hit a major new milestone in its vaccines rollout on Tuesday as the number of second jabs passed 30 million.

The announcement came after Michael Gove said the Government is "as confident as confident can be" about July 19 being the date for the end of England's coronavirus restrictions.

The Chancellor of the Duchy of Lancaster told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "The data shows that we should be in a position to have vaccinated so many people by that date in July that we will be able to lift restrictions.”

It come as a member of the Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation (JCVI) said the four-week delay to the end of restrictions, announced by Boris Johnson on Monday night, was “extremely welcome”.

Professor Adam Finn, from the University of Bristol told BBC Breakfast the delay was “giving ourselves time to get people immune”.

“The additional four weeks is extremely welcome and I hope, like we all do, that that’s enough.”
