China revises up 2023 GDP, sees little impact on 2024 growth
China revised upwards on Thursday the size of its economy by 2.7%, but said the change would have little impact on growth this year, as policymakers pledged more stimulus to spur expansion in 2025. Gross domestic product (GDP) in 2023 was raised by 3.4 trillion yuan to 129.4 trillion ($17.73 trillion), Kang Yi, the head of the National Bureau of Statistics, told a presss conference, while releasing the fifth national economic census. 2025 auto industry outlook: How to play auto market in new year
Electric vehicles and trucks will be the focus of the US auto market in 2025, iSeeCars.com executive analyst Karl Brauer tells Brad Smith and Josh Lipton on Market Domination. The analyst takes a closer look at what to expect from the auto market in 2025 and what it means for investors. The EV market is expected to be challenged in the new year with President-elect Trump returning to the White House and ongoing slow consumer demand. "A lot of these companies are starting to already shift their EV product kind of into [a back-up] plan and moving forward with more internal combustion and hybrid vehicles, which is, I think, smart," Brauer says. The analyst highlights Toyota (TM) as a standout automaker in the hybrid space. Another challenge for the electric transition is that the US is "a truck country," Brauer says, adding, "It's going to be tough to ever really kill those truck sales [since] there's just so many uses for them here both commercially and privately." He says that Ram hybrid truck offerings, made by Stellantis (STLA), are "brilliant" since they provide consumers with an electrified truck option while easing range anxiety with an internal combustion engine. He adds, "We're going to watch how quickly the other full-sized truck makers, GM (GM) and Ford (F), struggle to catch up." Investing in AI: Why it's not to late to put money to work
Listen and subscribe to Stocks In Translation on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, or wherever you find your favorite podcast. In this episode of Stocks In Translation, Yahoo Finance markets and data editor Jared Blikre and producer Sydnee Fried welcome Callie Cox, the Chief Market Strategist at Ritholtz Wealth Management, to discuss investing in AI. If you're looking to identify companies poised to benefit from the AI revolution as it gradually integrates into the economy, Cox says “this year was all about the picks and shovels” and Nvidia (NVDA) is best example of that. Although, Nvidia isn't directly rolling out products like ChatGPT, it supplies the essential chips for neural networks and machine learning. “So the companies that are tangential to AI, products that we got excited about in 2022, are really the companies that did well this year,” Cox says. She also advises investors to be patient, reminding them that "the story is still early." Twice a week, Stocks In Translation cuts through the market mayhem, noisy numbers and hyperbole to give you the information you need to make the right trade for your portfolio. Why Nvidia bulls shouldn’t fear Amazon and Broadcom
Nvidia has trounced rivals when it comes to AI. But could the chip giant be at risk of losing its crown? Yahoo Finance Executive Editor Brian Sozzi asked Bank of America chip analyst Vivek Arya to walk through whether or not Nvidia (NVDA) investors should be afraid of Amazon (AMZN) and Broadcom (AVGO) taking too much of the pie. The short answer? No. The long answer? "When you look at Nvidia's market share, it is 80-85% in the next 12-18 months," he explains. Of course, he cautions that changes are always possible, so staying diligent about your investments is key. How Robbie Williams’ ‘Better Man’ Pulls Off Its Wild Human-Monkey Sex Scenes
There are plenty of ways to spice up a biopic, a genre of film often derided for being exasperatingly formulaic. You can play with multiple timelines, focus on a singular, specific moment in someone’s life—or, if you’re the fantastic Better Man, you throw all the rules out the window and cast a chimpanzee to play the person you’re portraying. Everyone else is a human. And it’s a musical! Yes, a chimpanzee is portraying British pop superstar Robbie Williams, who rose to fame as a member of the bo
