Twitter Bomb: Jorma Taccone Teases the Possibility of a 'MacGruber 2'

Angus MacGyver has been back in the spotlight lately with CBS’s new reboot of the beloved ’80s show, this time starring Lucas Till (Havoc from the X-Men movies) as the iconic, crafty bomb technician now known as “Mac.” (Side note: What percentage of Americans do you think know his first name is “Angus”?)

Now it turns out MacGyver’s spoofy alter-ego MacGruber could be making a comeback, too.

MacGruber director/cowriter Jorma Taccone tweeted a photo of the cover page for a “Super Duper Rough” script of MacGruber 2 today, prefacing it with the caption, “No joke.”

Even though the 2010 SNL-inspired comedy starring Will Forte (The Last Man on Earth, Nebraska) as the mulleted former Army man was a box-office bomb (too easy), it’s become a bona fide cult classic in the years since its release. Forte and Taccone have both discussed the possibility of a sequel in the years since, with mentions of a potential Kickstarter campaign to fund it.

Taccone (one-third of the comedy troupe Lonely Island, along with Andy Samberg and Akiva Schaffer) is coming off another box office disappointment with the Judd Apatow-produced concert mockumentary Popstar: Never Stop Never Stopping. But like MacGruber, it’s a film with a passionate fan base (including yours truly) many predict will find its mojo on the small screen.

Given how tough it’s proven for the satirical stylings of Taccone and friends to cut through at the cineplex, don’t be surprised to see MacGruber 2 blow up on Netflix or Amazon.
