Tuolumne County drowning victims identified by sheriff’s office

Two men who drowned over the weekend in Tuolumne County were identified Tuesday as 25-year-old Rinoel Villena of Daly City and 20-year-old Benedict Rozario of Pittsburg. The Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office said Villena and Rozario were part of a larger group that visited God’s Bath in the Tuolumne River Canyon on Friday. Officials said Villena, Rozario and a third person jumped into the water, but due to the swift-moving current and whirlpool, Villena and Rozario were not able to surface. The third person was able to free themselves from the current and surface downstream, the sheriff’s office said. One of the victims was recovered Friday, and the other was recovered Saturday morning, officials said.
