In a furious interview with Fox News on Sunday morning, President Donald Trump promoted false conspiracy theories surrounding his electoral defeat while claiming some states allowed voters to turn in ballots after Election Day and that the FBI, the Justice Department and the federal court system were complicit in an attempt to cover up alleged election fraud.

A day earlier, he suffered another setback in his bid to overturn the result after Pennsylvania’s Supreme Court dismissed a lawsuit attempting to invalidate the state’s mail-in ballots from the 2020 election. By Sunday, he admitted it would be “hard to get to the Supreme Court” given the apparent failure to overturn the results of the election in key states.

Meanwhile, the Biden transition team announced that President-elect Joe Biden has hired an all-female team to lead communications during his presidency — a first for any White House. There are also reports of two more women joining Janet Yellen as nominees for senior economic roles.

As news of the appointments came out, Mr Biden was at a Delaware orthopedist’s office with an ankle injury sustained while playing with his dog, Major. The transition team said he was taken there “out of an abundance of caution”. A CT scan revealed hairlines fractures in his foot, meaning that he may have to wear a walking boot for several weeks.

Mr Biden will also receive his first presidential daily brief on Monday.
