Trudeau comments on report CSIS had kept tabs on expelled Chinese diplomat since 2020

Prime Minister Justin Trudeau commented Friday on a report in the Globe and Mail that CSIS had been keeping tabs on Chinese diplomat Zhao Wei, who was recently deemed persona non grata by the government, since 2020. Asked why a decision was not made to expel him sooner, Trudeau said they would "not hesitate to take action where warranted" to stand up for Canadian values, rules and laws. He was also asked if someone was being held responsible for not raising the targeting of MP Michael Chong to the prime minister, Trudeau said he had brought in policy last week to ensure regardless of how credible or not a threat was towards parliamentarians, CSIS must raise it to the highest levels.
