Trucker Surprised With Free Food at Montana Weigh Station

Trucker Vernon Keylock was surprised with a hot meal and a bag of snacks as he made his stop at a weigh station in Billings, Montana, on Tuesday, April 7.

Local station KTVQ reported that Susan Nagy of Big Sky Pilots was responsible for organizing volunteers to hand out hot meals and other food items and supplies to passing truckers at the Laurel weigh station. Nagy and the volunteers were able to hand out over 850 meals over Monday and Tuesday, the Billings Gazette reported.

Big Sky Pilots’ Facebook page was flooded with comments of appreciation from truck drivers and their families, thanking the volunteers for handing out food.

“We really had a lot of fun feeding everyone. This was a good thing my pilots wanted to do for our community. The trucking community. May everyone have a safe day,” Big Sky Pilots wrote on Facebook.

Truckers faced some issues feeding themselves during work on the road as many restaurants were closed or operating in a minimal capacity due to COVID-19, and drive-through only fast-food restaurants are inaccessible to big rigs, reports said. Credit: Vernon Keylock via Storyful
