Tropical Storm Meari Makes Landfall Near Tokyo

Tropical Storm Meari made landfall on Japan’s Pacific coast near Tokyo on Saturday, August 13, according to the Japan Meteorological Agency.

Local media reported that around 11,800 people were affected by flight cancellations, and 72,000 people were told to evacuate Shizuoka, Japan, due to the storm.

This footage shows heavy rain lashing a parking lot in Narita, east of Tokyo, which officials warned was at risk of heavy rain and flooding.

The Japan Meteorological Agency also warned of potential landslides, flooding in low-lying areas, and overflowing rivers, especially in Tōkai region, reports said. Credit: @koinupower via Storyful
