Transformers' Josh Duhamel looks set to replace Armie Hammer in upcoming action-filled romantic comedy Shotgun Wedding.

According to Variety, the actor, who has also appeared in titles such as Safe Haven, New Year's Eve and Love, Simon is in talks to play Tom, the love interest of Jennifer Lopez's Darcy.

In the Jason Moore-directed movie, the couple brings their respective families together for an extravagant destination wedding – only for things to go pear-shaped when one of them gets cold feet. Things really take a turn, however, when the entire party gets taken hostage.

Production is due to start any day now.

Hammer was initially cast in the role Duhamel is courting, but dropped out of the project earlier this month in the midst of a social media controversy involving unverified explicit messages. Lionsgate confirmed his departure via a representative on Wednesday, January 13.

Later, the Call Me By Your Name star disputed the legitimacy of the messages, announcing in a statement shared by The Wrap: "I'm not responding to these bulls*** claims but in light of the vicious and spurious online attacks against me, I cannot in good conscience now leave my children for 4 months to shoot a film in the Dominican Republic.

"Lionsgate is supporting me in this and I'm grateful to them for that."
