The first reactions for Transformers One have arrived, with some critics hailing it as the "best Transformers film" to date.

The upcoming animated movie will serve as an origin story for the franchise, following Orion Pax/Optimus Prime (Chris Hemsworth) and D-16/Megatron (Brian Tyree Henry) as they go from brothers-in-arms to sworn enemies, forever changing the fate of Cybertron.

Ahead of its release in cinemas this October, those lucky few to have already seen Transformers One have taken to Twitter to share their first reactions - and it already sounds like a hit.

Next Best Picture’s Matt Neglia described Transformers One as the "best Transformers film to date", adding: "The trailers don’t do this justice. Rich in character & emotion with a deep reverence for the lore."

He also praised Josh Cooley for directing the film to "perfection, down to the last comedic and action beat, all backed by an epic score & an excellent voice cast".

Collider’s Perri Nemiroff had high praise for the film's animation style, which had a "great balance of CG vibrancy with texture and detail".

She continued: "As far as the story goes, it’s a super entertaining and charming buddy adventure that deftly sneaks in some real emotional heft.

"I’m a big fan of the entire voice cast, but there’s no denying that a big part of the reason some of those emotional beats hit as hard as they do is because of Brian Tyree Henry’s work.

"Again, everyone’s great, but he soars in my book."

Josh Blumenkrantz said that Transformers One "is the best Transformers movie now," while The Hollywood Handle wrote: "It was an awesome, action-packed adventure! Chris Hemsworth really channelled Peter Cullen over time, the comedy was hilarious, and the animation was GREAT!"

BFTV's Wilson also praised Hemsworth and Henry for bringing to life the "characters we grew to love and hate", adding: "Will see it again and again. This animated version is just as good as the 1st live version."

Transformers One will be released in cinemas on October 11.
