Arsenal completed the shock signing of Jorginho from Chelsea as Premier League clubs once again shattered the record for transfer spending in the winter window.

Jorginho’s £10 million move to the league leaders was one of the most eye-catching deals on another dramatic transfer deadline day, which saw Chelsea agree a British record deal for Enzo Fernandez at the 11th hour.

Chelsea's £105 million transfer fee for Fernandez, the Argentina and Benfica midfielder, is a move that takes the league’s winter spending to about £800 million.

Manchester United were also active in the market, signing Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich. The sudden pursuit of the Austrian midfielder came after it emerged that Christian Eriksen will be out for months due to an ankle injury.

Even before the frenzied transfer action on deadline day, the Premier League’s collective spending had already surpassed the previous January high of £430 million, set in 2018. Much of that investment has come from Chelsea, who had already committed nearly £200 million on new players this month before stepping up their interest in Fernandez in recent days.

Arsenal’s move for Jorginho came as the club were forced to accept defeat in their push for Brighton midfielder Mosies Caicedo, who last night looked set to remain at the Amex Stadium despite making it clear that he wanted to leave the south coast this month. Midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga joined Crystal Palace on loan.

Southampton were also among the biggest spenders on deadline day as they agreed to sign Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana for a club record fee of around £22 million. They were also pushing to complete a move for Genk striker Paul Onuachu, who will cost a reported £18.5 million.

After weeks of negotiations, Pedro Porro’s move from Sporting Lisbon to Tottenham Hotspur was finally confirmed. Spurs agreed an initial loan move for the wing-back with an obligation to buy for £40 million this summer. In a surprising turn of events, Matt Doherty joined Atlético Madrid as a free agent after Tottenham terminated his contract rather than loaning him.

Porro’s deal had looked under threat as Sporting Lisbon dug their heels in. But the 23-year-old full-back underwent a medical after the clubs agreed an initial loan for the rest of the season, which will turn into a £40 million permanent deal and a five-year contract. To make way for Porro in Antonio Conte’s squad, Spurs allowed Doherty to leave and Djed Spence to go out on loan to Rennes in France for the rest of the campaign.

Doherty, 31, has played his entire career in Britain, but is represented by Portuguese super-agent Jorge Mendes. The Ireland international was not a regular under Conte this season and now treads the same path as Kieran Trippier, who moved from Spurs to Atlético in 2019. Jude Soonsup-Bell, a 19-year-old striker, arrived at Spurs from Chelsea.

Earlier in the day, Joao Cancelo completed his surprise loan move from Manchester City to Bayern Munich in the wake of his recent clash with manager Pep Guardiola.

Bayern have an option to buy Cancelo permanently this summer, for £61.5 million, but the full-back said he did not regard his move to Germany as a “final departure” from City, where he has been one of the Premier League’s best performers in recent seasons.

Nottingham Forest were typically busy, with Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas, Atlético Madrid defender Felipe and Jonjo Shelvey signed on deadline day.

Transfer deadline day: As it happened

That's all for today

  • Jorginho has joined Arsenal on an 18-month contract for an initial £10 million

Done deal: Keylor Navas joins Nottingham Forest

By John Percy

Nottingham Forest have sealed a huge coup  with the capture of Paris St-Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Forest's protracted move for Navas was completed shortly before the cut-off point, with the Costa Rica international joining on loan.

A three-time Champions League winner, Navas is on huge wages of around £150,000 a week at PSG with Forest striking an agreement to pay a proportion of his salary.

United on course to sign Sabitzer

By James Ducker, Northern Football Correspondent

United filed the deal sheet on Sabitzer before the 11pm deadline and now have until midnight to finalise the loan. No problems envisaged so the loan is on track to be completed.

11:05 PM

Done deal: Jonjo Shelvey joins Nottingham Forest

The midfielder has moved from Newcastle United on a two-and-a-half year deal and will wear the number six shirt at the City Ground.

Shelvey said: “I spoke to Eddie Howe and he had such good words to say about Steve Cooper. I previously knew of him from my time at Liverpool, so I knew what a fantastic coach he was, but meeting him for the first time has been a breath of fresh air."

Arsenal's striker search proves fruitless

By Tom Garry, Women's Football Reporter

Arsenal's hopes of trying to add a striker before the WSL's deadline for international arrivals closes at midnight are over, Telegraph Sport understands, with the north London club's last-gasp attempts to add a goalscorer proving unsuccessful.

As well as seeing their improved, £500,000 offer Alessia Russo firmly rejected by Manchester United earlier, Arsenal had also tried to sign Denmark forward Signe Bruun from European champions Lyon as an alternative option. But the French club have indicated that they were not willing to let Bruun leave because they did not have enough time to find a suitable replacement.

Arsenal were also heavily linked with moves for Brazil forward Debinha and Benfica's Canada forward Cloe Lacasse, earlier in this window, but Debinha subsequently chose to join American outfit Kansas City, while Arsenal's move for Lacasse fell through last week and she is staying in Portugal. Ultimately, it leaves Arsenal light on proven goalscorers after Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema both suffered season-ending knee injuries late in 2022.

10:08 PM

Done deal: Palace sign Lokonga on loan

The Arsenal midfielder will spend the remainder of the season working with Patrick Vieira. He has struggled for minutes this season and this is a chance to rebuild his confidence.

Lokonga said: “I’m really excited – I can’t wait to get started. I’m really happy to join Crystal Palace. I want to go as far as possible with the team. I will try to push for me and the team to do the maximum to reach the top.”

Tottenham statement confirming Matt Doherty has been released

He has followed the path walked by Kieran Trippier and joined Atletico Madrid. Earlier reports suggested it would be a loan, but he will join as a free agent.

In a statement, Spurs said:

We have mutually agreed to the termination of Matt Doherty’s contract to enable him to join another club.

Signed from Wolverhampton Wanderers in August, 2020, the Republic of Ireland international made 71 appearances for us in all competitions, scoring three goals.

We should like to thank Matt for his service and wish him well for the future.

Chelsea 'optimistic' about Fernandez

Done deal at Nottingham Forest

Forest have completed the singing of Atletico Madrid defender Felipe on an 18-month contract, their fourth signing of the January window.

Felipe said: “It was a dream of mine to play in the Premier League and I’m really excited to be part of this wonderful, fast-growing club.

“You can see it’s a club looking to really grow. It’s a big challenge for me and I made a clear decision to be part of the history here and grow with the club.”

The 33-year-old joined Atletico in 2019 and won a La Liga title for Diego Simeone's team.

Crystal Palace have completed the signing of 20-year-old midfielder Naouirou Ahamada from Stuttgart for a fee of around £10m.

Bournemouth transfer news

Bournemouth have completed the signing of Ukraine defender Illia Zabarnyi from Dynamo Kyiv.

The 20-year-old, capped 24 times by his country, has signed a five-and-a-half-year deal at the Vitality Stadium and becomes the Cherries' fifth January transfer addition.

Bournemouth chief executive Neill Blake told the club website: "We are absolutely delighted to bring Illia to the club and he arrives with a burgeoning CV.

"Despite only being 20, he has played at the highest level for club and country and has established himself as one of the most sought-after young defenders in the world.

"We are very much looking forward to seeing him continue his development with us and know he will be a valued and important member of our squad."

Analysis: Jorginho to Arsenal

Arsenal have a pretty grim track record when it comes to buying Chelsea veterans, but Sam Dean writes that this one could be different. Unlike Petr Cech, William Gallas or Willian, Arsenal are not signing Jorginho to fill a key starting role but rather a squad place. You can read his analysis of the deal here.

It is worth mentioning that Arteta is a long-time admirer of Jorginho, and first tried to sign him a couple of years ago. Arteta was also Pep Guardiola’s assistant at Manchester City when they tried to buy Jorginho from Napoli in the summer of 2018, before he instead went to Chelsea.

Observers of Jorginho will know that he does not boast the same physicality and mobility as Partey, who is dribbled past less frequently than his soon-to-be team-mate. Jorginho is widely regarded as more of a schemer than a destroyer.

08:15 PM

Mikel Arteta on Jorginho

Jorginho is a midfield player with intelligence, deep leadership skills and a huge amount of Premier League and international experience. Jorginho has won in his career, but he still has the hunger and huge willingness to contribute here.

We are so pleased to sign Jorginho and welcome him and his family to the club.

I just can't wait to be on the pitch. Everything happened so fast, I was a bit surprised and I took the oppportunity of this amazing challenge. I'm very happy.

I know he tried a few times before but it didn't happen [Arteta trying to sign him].

I try to add and to help with my experience from other clubs, to help the team more and more.

It was tough! [Playing against Arsenal in November] Even in pre-season, I could feel that this season Arsenal would do very well.

United finalising Sabitzer move

By James Ducker, Northern Football Correspondent

Sabitzer’s move from Bayern is expected to be a straight loan with no option to buy. United are finalising the paperwork and sorting a work permit with Sabitzer due in Manchester imminently ahead of a medical.

There is work still to do but sources at Old Trafford are confident they will get a deal over the line. United were offered a series of other players but the Austria midfielder will be the only deadline day signing.

Nottingham Forest's race against time

Nottingham Forest are racing against the clock to seal the capture of Paris Saint Germain goalkeeper Keylor Navas.

Forest's move for Navas was off this morning but has been revived and the two clubs now have an agreement to sign the Costa Rica international on loan.

With the 11pm deadline looming, Forest are desperately trying to conclude the deal with Navas expected to have a medical in Paris.

The Austria midfielder, 28, was keen to move to Old Trafford once United’s interest became clear.

Erik ten Hag was desperate to get in a replacement for Christian Eriksen once it became clear his ankle injury was serious and believes Sabitzer can help to fill that void.

Any chance of a late twist in the Caicedo saga?

By Sam Dean

Moises Caicedo has made it clear that he wants to leave Brighton this month, with both Chelsea and Arsenal having big-money bids rejected.

Brighton, though, have publicly insisted that he is not for sale -- and now Caicedo is running out of time.

Crystal Palace want Gallagher back on loan...but Chelsea want sale

By Sam Wallace, Chief Football Writer

Conor Gallagher is wanted by Crystal Palace on loan, but at this stage Chelsea are currently only considering permanent cash deals after Everton made a £40 million offer that was rejected by the player.

Gallagher, 22, only wants a permanent deal to another top six team or at least one challenging for the Champions League places. He might yet be persuaded of a second successive loan to Palace but that would require Chelsea’s agreement. The England international turbo-charged his career with a loan at Palace last season in which he became a regular first team player.

The offer from Everton has raised expectations at Chelsea that there is a potential big sale for Gallagher. Any loan would only be sanctioned when all other sale options have been exhausted.

Cancelo on his exit from Man City

I didn’t talk to the manager about a possible transfer to Bayern because this all happened so suddenly. There was an offer and I accepted.

I’m ready to play, I’m looking forward, looking forward to playing in this shirt. [Being used less at City recently is] exactly why I decided to make this move, for the few minutes I’ve had in recent weeks.

It has nothing to do with Pep, but because I decided to leave for a new adventure. I’m happy here, it’s a big club, with a lot of history.

In these 5 months I want to have a clear head, express my football and help the team.

Latest Newcastle United update by Luke Edwards

The messages coming out of Newcastle United suggest they could well be done in this transfer window with attempts to bring in a midfield player on loan continuing to be frustrated.

A last day enquiry for Chelsea’s Conor Gallagher has once again failed to gain any sort approval from the London club and it looks like the 22-year-old will not be joining the Magpies even if he is allowed to leave before the 11pm deadline.

Newcastle’s recruitment team are still making calls to see if they can loan a defensive midfielder, so it is not quite the end of their work, but there is a growing sense of calm behind the scenes.

Manager Eddie Howe has had several meetings with Director of Football Dan Ashworth and members of the Newcastle board in the last few days and they are simply unable to get players on their pre-existing wanted list,

There has been no sense of panic despite the loss of Jonjo Shelvey and Chris Wood this month, with the versatility of new signing Anthony Gordon meaning they can drop Joelinton back into midfield if they suffer injuries in that department.

As a result, instead of paying inflated fees for targets in the middle of winter, Newcastle seem content to wait until the summer.

It was never their plan to spend much money this month as they want to ensure their summer transfer kitty is as large as possible under Financial Fair Play Rules.

Manchester United have ruled out selling England star Alessia Russo today, with a source close to the club telling Telegraph Sport that Russo "is not for sale at any price".

Arsenal had made an improved, world-record bid for the 23-year-old in the region of £500,000, but the WSL leaders are not willing to let Russo go.

Attention will now turn towards the summer and contract negotiations, with Russo's deal expiring at the end of June when she could leave on a free transfer if she does not agree a new contract with Manchester United.

Latest Manchester United update by Jason Burt

Manchester United are trying to sign Marcel Sabitzer on loan from Bayern Munich.

The club have moved swiftly following the news that Christian Eriksen will be out injured until the end of April/ beginning of May. Sabitzer has not trained today as United try to finalise a deal.

United have to negotiate even more quickly because the transfer window in Germany closes at 5pm – rather than 11pm as in the UK but it is understood that there is a strong chance they will sign Sabitzer.

The 28-year-old Austrian international has been tracked by United for some time. They showed interest in Sabitzer when he was at RB Leipzig and before he joined Bayern in Aug 2021.

There has been speculation over Sabitzer’s future with Bayern interested in another midfielder, Konrad Laimer, from Leipzig.

Although Sabitzer had a difficult first season with Bayern he has been more reliable during this campaign.

Erik ten Hag is urging United to sign another experienced midfielder – and had been offered the chance to bring in Atletico Madrid’s Yannick Carrasco – following Eriksen’s ankle injury suffered in last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Reading. Ten Hag has decided against a move for Carrasco but is interested in Sabitzer.

01:42 PM

Jorginho does not fit Arsenal's transfer strategy – so why does this move make sense?

One of the main reasons Arsenal have wanted to sign a midfielder this month is because of an injury to Mohamed Elneny, the backup to Thomas Partey. They feared it would be serious and it has now been confirmed, following a lot of assessments, that Elneny will be out for "an extended period of time" due to a knee issue.

No wonder Arsenal were so keen to get a deal done for a new midfielder, with Jorginho set to be confirmed later today (provided there are no hitches).

It means that Elneny could have played his last game for the club - his contract expires at the end of this season.

Latest Aston Villa update by John Percy

Aston Villa are recalling winger Bertrand Traore from his loan at Turkish club Istanbul Basaksehir.

Traore's loan will be cut short after Villa head coach Unai Emery moved to bring him back to England.

Emery wants the Burkina Faso international to be involved in Villa's first-team for the second half of the season.

Signed for around £17 million from Lyon in September 2020, Traore was loaned out under Emery's predecessor Steven Gerrard.

Emery had been determined to sign a new winger this month but with prices for targets proving too high, the decision to end Traore's loan in Turkey was regarded as a simple solution.

After all, Traore is contracted to Villa and it makes sense for Emery to see him ahead of what is likely to be a busy summer.

He will have great players, but can you create that sort of team ethic and bond that all great teams need in the future?

But if you are a Chelsea fan, it is really exciting. Todd Boehly has come in and put his money where his mouth is and he wants to get Chelsea right back to the top.

Southampton are now most confident of signing Kamaldeen Sulemana from Rennes but are still hoping to make at least two deadline day signings to rescue their season.

The lack of a regular goalscoring centre-forward has been the big glaring weakness in a team that is currently bottom of the Premier League and they are increasingly confident of at least beating relegation rivals Everton for Sulemana.

Southampton have agreed an initial £20 million fee for the winger and, subject to a medical, the 20-year-old is expected to sign on a deal until 2028.

Sulemana is a Ghana international and has scored five goals in Ligue 1 over the past two seasons. Southampton also want to add a striker and have been in talks for Portugal and Braga midfielder Vitinha, who has a £27 million release clause.

Latest Nottingham Forest update by Mike McGrath

Blackburn Rovers have joined the race for the 31-year-old, with Luton Town also looking at him among others in the second tier.

Paul Merson on Jorginho move to Arsenal

I think outstanding. You are buying experience as well. He’s won big trophies. He is a proper holding midfield player.

We were only talking about, two years ago when they won the Champions League and he won the Euros, we were saying ‘why don’t England produce one of these players?’. Two years on and Arsenal could be getting him.

I know he’s two years older, but he’s so intelligent. He’ll protect the back four and he just keeps it simple. He will be feeding Odegaard. He will be feeding Saka and Martinelli.

For me, he is a top signing. He knows he won’t be playing every week. But he will bring experience and calmness. I call it a cup of tea.

Latest Manchester United update by Jason Burt

Manchester United have been offered the chance to sign Yannick Carrasco from Atletico Madrid. The club will try and bring in a midfielder on loan due to the long-term injury to Christian Eriksen.

There is understood to have been contact between Carrasco’s representatives and United although it seems far more likely that the Belgium international will join Barcelona in the summer.

It appears United manager Erik ten Hag is unsure whether he wants to bring in Carrasco despite the news that Eriksen will be out for around three months with an ankle injury sustained in the FA Cup win over Reading at the weekend.

Although Eriksen and Carrasco are different types of players, the injury has left United short of options.

That has sparked a desperate scramble from United who are now contacting several leading clubs around Europe to see whether they can bring in a midfielder before tonight’s transfer deadline.

Contact is believed to have been made with Atletico, Barcelona, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain but so far United have been left frustrated.

Barcelona have a non-mandatory buy option to sign Carrasco as part of the deal to let Memphis Depay join Atletico. It is thought to be for around 20million euros and should be activated in the summer.

United are only interested in a loan deal on deadline day and remain cool on the prospect of signing Carrasco. Tottenham Hotspur held talks last summer about buying the 29-year-old but he eventually stayed in Madrid.

Ten Hag on Eriksen injury

We have players in midfield, good players, who can fill the gap. Every player has their own characteristics and identity.

Eriksen brings top quality to our squad and some characteristics are hard to replace, for instance his quality in the final third.

Agree? Disagree?

Dudley Nicholls says:

I think people are being harsh on Jorginho. He is a good player who helps to keep possession. Whether his game is more suited to Italy however is possible. He has played most Chelsea matches this year and every manager has played him consistently. Good business I think for both teams.

Latest Nottingham Forest update by John Percy

Nottingham Forest are ramping up their attempts to sign a new goalkeeper on deadline day after a move for PSG's Keylor Navas collapsed.

Navas, the Costa Rica international, was targeted by Forest amid concerns over the length of time Manchester United loanee Dean Henderson will be out for with a thigh injury.

But the move is now understood to be off due to salary expectations from PSG, with Forest now turning their attention to other targets.

Atletico Madrid defender Felipe is undergoing a medical ahead of a permanent move.

Forest are also looking to move players out: Steve Cook could join Blackburn on loan while striker Lyle Taylor and midfielder Cafu are wanted by Reading.

Harry Toffolo's future is uncertain after talks over a move to Anderlecht stalled, and midfielder Lewis O'Brien is also waiting for permission to join either Sheffield United or West Brom on loan.

Latest Leicester City Women update by Tom Garry

It looks set to be a quiet day at Belvoir Drive, Leicester City Women's training ground, as they are happy with their current squad and not expecting to do any more business in this transfer window, according to Telegraph Sport sources.

The WSL's bottom side added five players in this window - including Manchester City's

on loan - and, at the time of writing, unless an unexpected opportunity emerges for the East Midlands club, the club do not expect to sign anybody further or let anybody leave except striker Natasha Flint's long-expected move to Celtic on loan, which should go through today as planned.

Latest Arsenal update by Sam Dean

Arsenal are in talks with Crystal Palace over a potential loan move for young midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

The 23-year-old has struggled for game time this season and has not been able to impose himself on the Arsenal midfield.

Arsenal's move for Jorginho will push Lokonga even further down the pecking order in north London.

Palace have long been hoping to strengthen their midfield, although it remains to be seen whether a deal will be agreed or not.

Latest Arsenal Women update by Tom Garry

Lyon's stance regarding Arsenal's interest in Signe Bruun is that they are not prepared to let the Denmark striker leave today unless they can source a replacement, which sources close to the French club have said looks "unlikely" at this stage.

The European champions rate Bruun - who was loaned to Manchester United on deadline day last January in a dramatic, eleventh-hour move - highly, and look set to resist Arsenal's approach.

The north London club are urgently trying to sign a striker before the window closes, following knee injuries suffered by Beth Mead and Vivianne Miedema late in 2022, and they had a world-record bid for England's Alessia Russo rejected by Manchester United yesterday.

Latest Manchester United update by Jason Burt

Facundo Pellistri will stay at Manchester United and not go on loan at Watford after United manager Erik ten Hag finally decided he needed him for the rest of the season.

The 21-year-old winger was close to joining the Championship club after positive talks last week but Ten Hag has had a change of heart, deciding that given how many games United have to play and with Pellistri gaining minutes off the bench.

His thinking may well also have been influenced by how much Jadon Sancho is expected to play. The winger has returned to the United squad, having not played since October, but Ten Hag wants to be careful as he re-integrates the 22-year-old as he makes his physical and mental recovery.

The decision not to loan Pellistri is a blow to Watford with head coach Slaven Bilic still looking for a winger – and a midfielder – before the transfer window closes as he tries to strengthen his squad.

Latest Arsenal update by Sam Dean and Matt Law

Arsenal are pushing forward with a move for Chelsea midfielder Jorginho, who emerged last night as a late alternative to top target Moises Caicedo.

The swoop for Jorginho would suggest that Arsenal are rapidly losing confidence in their pursuit of Caicedo, having had two bids rejected by Brighton in recent days. Brighton have repeatedly insisted that Caicedo is not for sale.

Although Caicedo and Jorginho both play in the same position in midfield, they are very different players. Jorginho, at 31, is also 10 years older than Caicedo.

If Arsenal can complete a move for Jorginho, he would be the second oldest player in their first-team squad, behind Cedric Soares.

Leicester are set to make Stoke defender Harry Souttar their third January signing in a £15 million deal.

Souttar will have a medical on Tuesday and is poised to become the latest addition to Brendan Rodgers’s reshaped squad.

The Australia international impressed for his country at last year's World Cup and Leicester believe he has the qualities and potential to shine in the Premier League.

Stoke are targeting at least two new players with the funds raked in from Souttar’s sale.

Leeds' Jack Harrison has also been a target for Leicester but that move is understood to be complex.

Leicester are also keen to trim their squad before Tuesday's deadline, with Jannik Vestergaard, Caglar Soyuncu, Ayoze Perez and Dennis Praet all available for transfer.

Why does Cancelo want to leave City?

By James Ducker

Relations between Cancelo and Guardiola had been deteriorating for weeks and reached a head when the Portugal full-back learned he would not be starting in City’s FA Cup win over Arsenal on Friday night.

Cancelo reacted angrily to the news, which forced relations with Guardiola to hit rock bottom, and led City to agree to let the player leave when his representatives presented a loan offer from Bayern, despite them being a Champions League rival.

Cancelo had become increasingly frustrated with a lack of playing time since returning from the World Cup last month and had not been unafraid to voice his frustrations, which are said to have created growing tensions behind the scenes.

Under Uefa rules, Cancelo will be free to face City in the Champions League should the English champions and Bayern end up meeting each other in the competition this season.

Latest Newcastle United update by Luke Edwards

Newcastle United will make a final enquiry over the availability of Chelsea’s young England international Conor Gallagher on deadline day but fear the London club will continue to make the deal too expensive.

Chelsea are unwilling to loan the 22-year-old to Newcastle as they see them as a direct rival for European qualification and have also put them off a permanent deal with an asking price well in excess of £50m.

The Magpies have contemplated a permanent move as Gallagher is a long-standing target and they will move for him again in the summer. If a transfer was paid for now it would simply be a case of bringing forward more of next season’s budget.

But sources have told Telegraph Sport that a deal is unlikely at this stage because it would be too expensive. The Newcastle hierarchy also believe they are being asked for more money than other clubs because Chelsea are so reluctant to do business.

Other mooted deadline day deals also look beyond Eddie Howe reach with Sheffield United’s Sander Berge likely to move to Fulham for £20m, while Gallagher’s Stamford Bridge teammate Ruben Loftus-Cheek wages are a huge stumbling block.

Newcastle have not said they are finished in the transfer market for this month, but there is an acceptance that could be the case.

The late departure of Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest has left Howe a midfielder short, but the plan was never to spend a huge amount of this window and the summer is viewed as a far more important window as the club tries to navigate its way through Financial Fair Play Rules.

Alessia Russo to Arsenal?

Manchester United have rejected a world-record transfer offer from Arsenal for England striker Alessia Russo, after the north London club made a sensational attempt to sign the Lionesses star just 24 hours out from Tuesday's looming transfer deadline.

Tom Garry has all the information here.

07:08 AM

Transfer deadline day

Hello and welcome to the final day of the January transfer window.

It is possible we could see the Premier League's most expensive player signed today if Chelsea sign Benfica midfielder Enzo Fernandez.

The previous record was set by Manchester City following the signing of Jack Grealish for £100m in August 2021. But Chelsea owner Todd Boehly is desperate to strengthen his underperforming squad and has made an offer of more than £105million with co-controlling owner Behdad Egbhali and director of global talent and transfers Paul Winstanley ready to clinch a deal.

Elsewhere Arsenal continue to hunt for a central midfielder with Brighton's Moises Caicedo and Chelsea's Jorginho on their radar as they aim to boost their options for a Premier League title challenge.

Manchester City are set to let Joao Cancelo join Bayern Munich after a bust-up with manager Pep Guardiola. Relations between Cancelo and Guardiola had been deteriorating for weeks and reached a head when the Portugal full-back learned he would not be starting in City’s FA Cup win over Arsenal on Friday night.

Manchester United are expected to have a quiet day but on transfer deadline day, you just never know!

Other deals to look out for include, Jonjo Shelvey to Nottingham Forest, Cedric Soares and Sasa Lukic to Fulham. Southampton need a new attacking option and are reportedly keen on Rennes winger Kamaldeen Sulemana but boss Nathan Jones on Monday poured cold water on rumours linking striker Che Adams with Everton.

Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has not ruled out signing a goalkeeper in the final hours of the January transfer window following an injury to Dean Henderson.

Sander Berge could be on his way out at Sheffield United after reportedly receiving interest from Premier League clubs.

Stay with us until 11pm tonight when the window closes.
