Traffic Alert: MacArthur Causeway westbound lanes closed late Monday, early Tuesday in Miami

MacArthur Causeway’s westbound lanes are closed Monday night due to overnight construction in downtown Miami.

The westbound lanes of Interstate 395 will be shut down at the Biscayne Boulevard exit from 11:45 p.m. until 5:30 a.m. Tuesday while the Federal Department of Transportation removes an overhead sign to open new areas for construction.

The entrance ramp from NE 1st Avenue to westbound I-395 will also be closed.

“Drivers in the City of Miami Beach can access I-195 to head west and connect with I-95,” said Miami Beach Police on Facebook.

Traffic will be detoured to exit 2, so drivers can also access State Road 836.

According to Connecting Miami, eastbound I-395 also will be closed Tuesday from 11:45 p.m. to 5:30 a.m. Wednesday. Drivers will be able to access the southbound exit for I-95 and then exit at NW 8th Street.

Additionally, they can keep south on NW 3rd Court, turn left at NW 8th or NW 5th streets, as well as make a left on Biscayne Boulevard to access A1A North.

The closures are part of the larger I-395, SR 836 and I-95 project that will reconstruct the I-395 corridor from the Midtown Interchange to the MacArthur Causeway Bridge, according to traffic updates from Connecting Miami.

According to the project’s Senior Community Outreach Specialist Oscar Gonzalez, the scheduled completion date is summer 2026 and anticipated construction cost is $840 million.
