At least eight people, including a pregnant woman, were injured when an out-of-control ski lift hurled people from their seats in the Georgian ski resort of Gaudari.

Dramatic video footage, shot by people standing next to the lift, showed the lift flinging skiers into the snow and others fell from carriages after its brakes malfunctioned.

Horrified onlookers shouted out in panic, pleading with people to jump off of their seats as the speed of the ski-lift increases.

At one point the lift appeared to be moving backwards and dangerously fast, leading to a pile-up of broken and twisted chairs at the lift’s lowest point.

Tourists from Sweden and Ukraine were injured in the bizarre incident, authorities in Georgia said.

‘Only two cases need to be monitored,’ a Georgian official told the Telegraph.

‘One of the injured, a Ukrainian citizen, broke his hand during the incident, and has a small head injury, while a Swedish citizen is pregnant and feels pain in her waist.’
