Tottenham transfer news: Traore in, Lo Celso out? Who Spurs could buy and sell before January deadline

The January transfer window closes next Monday and the pressure is on Tottenham to back Antonio Conte with new signings.

Here’s what is in store for Spurs before the deadline.

What they need

Conte would love a complete an overhaul of his squad, which he has pointedly described as "in the middle", but the head coach has prioritised the signing of a new right wing-back, a midfielder and a forward this month.

A left-sided centre-half is also a longer-term priority, along with more depth in more or less every position as well as a clear succession plan for goalkeeper and captain Hugo Lloris.

In short, the ‘painful rebuild’ called for by Mauricio Pochettino way back in 2019 still needs to happen and Conte’s happiness feels dependent on activity this week.

Who they want

Adama Traore is expected to become the first signing of the Conte era, with the Wolves man likely to join in a deal worth £20million and set to be converted to a right wing-back.

A creative midfielder will also become a priority if Spurs can offload unwanted players.

They are considering moving for AC Milan’s Franck Kessie to avoid a bidding war when the Ivorian becomes a free agent in the summer.

Spurs have long been among the clubs who admire Fiorentina’s Dusan Vlahovic although that boat may have already sailed.

Tottenham have also now entered into talks about a potential loan deal for Vlahovic’s team-mate Sofyan Amrabat.

Who could go

Tottenham are hoping to offload midfield trio Dele Alli, Tanguy Ndombele and Giovani Lo Celso, with loan or swap deals considered most likely.

Defenders Joe Rodon, Japhet Tanganga and Matt Doherty can also leave, although Harry Winks and Steven Bergwijn have done enough to earn Conte’s trust.

Ajax have had a £15m bid for Bergwijn rejected but Spurs are unlikely to sell after the Dutchman’s recent heroics at Leicester.
