Jan Oblak has already backed himself to succeed in the Premier League as Tottenham weigh up a move for the Atletico Madrid goalkeeper.

Standard Sport understand Spurs are making plans for life after Hugo Lloris, with the long-serving club captain expected to leave upon the expiration of his contract in 2024.

As such, Oblak has emerged as the club’s primary target and has been sounded out over a potential move. Manchester United, however, could offer competition for one of Europe’s leading goalkeepers over the past few years.

For their part, Atletico are open to discussing the 29-year-old’s future after almost a decade of service in the Spanish capital.

A key component in Diego Simeone’s side, the Slovenian international starred in Atleti’s most recent LaLiga title win in 2021 and has also lifted the Europa League following a 2014 move from Benfica.

Speaking to BBC Sport in 2021, Oblak said: “The Premier League has strong teams, maybe the strongest

"I don’t know what the future will bring, but I am sure that in any league I would play in I could play well.

"I have now been in Spain for seven years. Let’s see. I’m still young and I still have some years in front of me. The most important thing for me is the hope that I do not have a lot of injuries, and then we’ll see."
