Tottenham have agreed a fee to sign Chelsea Under-21s striker Jude Soonsup-Bell to bolster the club’s academy.

The 19-year-old is highly regarded at Cobham but has sought another pathway, winding down his contract to its final six months.

Spurs are now expected to seal the signing when Soonsup-Bell completes a medical and puts pen to paper on his new deal.

The north Londoners hope Soonsup-Bell can help their struggling U21s side, which are currently stuck second bottom of Premier League 2, by offering him a long-term pathway to the first-team via loans from next season.

Soonsup-Bell had a similar offer from Manchester City and clubs abroad but is now expected to join Chelsea’s cross-city rivals.

There remains some concern back in west London that a host of young players could leave Cobham after Chelsea’s new owners spent close to £500million on new players this season, with two more days until the transfer window closes.

However, Charlie Webster has rejected interest from Dortmund and PSV to remain at Chelsea. Fellow academy stars Malik Mothersille and Dion Rankine are also expected to remain in the Blues’ academy.

There remain concerns over the future of around a dozen other youngsters who see their deals expire in the summer, leaving them free to plan their exits.
