'In the house that Kobe Bryant built': Top 5 buzzy moments from the Grammy Awards

On the day of the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, the world was hit with a terrible tragedy.

Just hours before the show was scheduled to start, Kobe Bryant and his 13-year-old daughter Gianna were among nine people who died in a helicopter crash in Calabasas, California.

The awards ceremony went on but was filled with tributes to Bryant, with fans heading to the Staples Center in Los Angeles to pay their respects to the basketball icon and his daughter - in addition to celebrating musicians at the Grammys.

Here are the top five moment of the 2020 Grammy Awards:

Alicia Keys, Boyz II Men honour Kobe Bryant

Although the Grammy Awards ceremony is music’s biggest night, host Alicia Keys couldn’t start the event without paying tribute to Bryant.

Kicking off the night, Keys stressed that the awards are being held “in the house that Kobe Bryant built.” The songstress was joined by Boyz II Men to sing “It's So Hard to Say Goodbye to Yesterday,” to honour the late basketball legend.

Tyler The Creator’s epic performance

Artist Tyler The Creator is known for his wild performances and unique look, and he certainly didn’t disappoint at the Grammy Awards stage.

He performed the songs “Earfquake” and “New Magic Wand,” with Charlie Wilson and Boyz II Men. Tyler The Creator had dancers dressed exactly like him, ending with the set appearing to go up in flames.

Tyler The Creator went on to win the award for Best Rap Album for “Igor.”

Camila Cabello’s sweet serenade for her father

Teased as a performance dedicated to “someone special,” you may have expected that Camila Cabello would sing a song to her boyfriend Shawn Mendes - but she went in a different direction this time around.

Cabello sang “First Man” to her dad, with images of the father-daughter duo as she was growing up. The performance ended with the star walking into the audience to serenade and hug her father, who was brought to tears (along with everyone else).

Demi Lovato’s emotional performance

In another emotional moment at the Grammy Awards, Demi Lovato took to the stage to premiere the song “Anyone.”

The singer was teary-eyed from the start, having to stop and start again after taking a moment to collect herself.

Back in 2018, Lovato was admitted to hospital for an apparent drug overdose, following six years of sobriety. The singer reportedly checked into a rehab facility in August. In an interview with Apple Music's Zane Lowe, Lovato said she recorded “Anyone” four days prior to her overdose.

When the performance was over, Lovato got a standing ovation from the entire room.

‘Walk This Way’

In a blast from the past, Aerosmith and Run-DMC took the stage together to sing the hit “Walk This way.”

Steven Tyler got particularly excited during the show, running up to Lizzo to sing the chorus, and grabbing two girls from the audience to come on stage and dance to the end of the song.

The Run-DMC crew, including Rev. Run, were all dressed in black with their iconic Adidas Superstar sneakers.

People on social media were watching Lizzo very closely throughout the ceremony, particularly during the presentation of the Grammy for Best Pop Solo Performance.

If you look closely at the video posted online, it seems like the singer is saying “Beyonce” over and over again, in anticipation for the winner to be called out. Beyonce herself was nominated in the same category, but Lizzo ultimate took home the award.

This technically isn’t a Grammy Awards moment but there’s no question, Scottish singer-songwriter Lewis Capaldi was a highlight of the night.

This is a star that doesn’t take himself too seriously, which we love, starting with his hilarious poses on the Grammys red carpet.

Capaldi lost the award for Song of the Year to Billie Eilish’s track “Bad Guy.”
