Knives Out actress Toni Collette has announced her divorce from her husband of nearly 20 years, Dave Galafassi.

The Hereditary star and the musician confirmed the decision in a joint statement on Instagram, accompanied by a picture of a floral display forming the words "Peace & Love".

"After a substantial period of separation, it is with grace and gratitude that we announce we are divorcing," the statement reads.

"We're united in our decision and part with continuing respect and care for each other. Our kids are of paramount importance to us and we will continue to thrive as a family, albeit a different shape," it continues.

"We're thankful for the space and love you grant us as we evolve and move through this transition peacefully."

Collette and Galafassi met in 2002. They got married in 2003 and welcomed children Sage Florence and Arlo Robert in 2008 and 2011 respectively.

Collette, recently seen in HBO drama The Staircase as well as Guillermo del Toro's Nightmare Alley, is among the star-studded cast of Bong Joon-ho's upcoming sci-fi movie Mickey 17.

The Oscar-winning director will adapt the 2022 novel Mickey7 by Edward Ashton for the screen. Alongside Collette, the hotly-anticipated movie also stars The Batman's Robert Pattinson, Star Wars' Naomi Ackie, The Walking Dead's Steven Yeun, Marvel's Mark Ruffalo and The Borgias' Holliday Grainger.

The first teaser for Mickey 17 doesn't give much away but, if it's anything like the novel, it'll follow titular "expendable" hero Mickey Barnes (Pattinson). A disposable employee, Mickey participates in a mission to colonise an icy planet known as Niflheim and takes on the most dangerous tasks.

Mickey 17 hits cinemas on March 29, 2024.
