Tiny African Klipspringer Antelope Born at Florida Zoo

A tiny klipspringer antelope was born at a zoo in Melbourne, Florida, on April 15 and appears to be in good health, as seen in footage taken days after his birth.

The calf – who weighed 27.5 ounces at birth – is nursing well and expected to spend several weeks bonding with his four-year-old mother, Deborah, before making his public debut, the Brevard Zoo wrote in a statement.

Klipspringers, which only weigh about 18 to 40 pounds when fully grown, are native to sub-Saharan Africa, where they live in rocky areas, according to the zoo. Although the species doesn’t face any major threats, it’s occasionally hunted for its meat and hide. Credit: Brevard Zoo via Storyful
