Tim Hortons announces ‘slight’ price increase from August 2

Regulars of popular coffee chain Tim Hortons may soon be paying a little bit more for their double-doubles and bagel BELTS.

Signs indicating a price increase on some menu items have been posted beside cash registers at Tim Hortons locations today.

“To our valued guests,” the signage reads. “Please be aware that due to rising operational costs, there will be a slight price increase affecting some hot beverages and breakfast menu items starting Wednesday, August 2, 2017.

“We greatly appreciate your business and look forward to providing you with the same quality, service and value our guests have always appreciated. Sincerely, Tim Hortons.”

The signs do not indicate how much the “slight” price increase will be, or which items will be affected specifically, however The Canadian Press reports increases will be 10 cents, in line with previous increases.

Some Tim Hortons customers in Edmonton, Alberta reported seeing price increases on these items back in June.

This is the second increase of its kind in three years. In November 2014, hot beverages and breakfast sandwiches went up by an average of 10 cents throughout Canada (although breakfast sandwich prices did not increase in Ontario). That same year in April, Tim Hortons also raised the price of some of its baked goods. In 2012, Tim Hortons raised prices on some of its sandwiches by 10 cents to 20 cents, depending on the product and market.

The most dramatic change to Tim Hortons coffee products and pricing came in 2011, when Tim Hortons eliminated the 8-oz. small cup and replaced with its 10-oz. medium, and introduced the 24-oz. extra large size.

When the first Tim Hortons store opened in Hamilton, Ont. in 1964, a cup of coffee cost 10 cents.
