Woman's 'daunting' list of rules for first dates divides TikTok: 'It's just embarrassing'

A podcast host and YouTuber is causing a frenzy on TikTok after she posted her list of dating rules to the platform.

24-year-old Brooke Miccio says that she feels like a “seasoned pro” when it comes to first dates. That’s why she came up with her lengthy list of “rules” that are sending TikTok commenters into a tailspin.

The first rule is that Miccio wears heels to every first date to challenge whether the guy is lying about his height — which she claims “almost” every guy does a little bit on dating apps.

“It’s just embarrassing if I show up in 2-inch heels and we’re the same height,” Miccio says. “Like, you’re lying about something somewhere.”

Miccio also says she will show up to the date three to five minutes late to ensure that the man already has a table. Food, however, is a big “no” on the first date. If things don’t go well at the beginning, you can get “trapped” until the meal ends if you order food. On the other hand, even if a date is going well, Miccio insists that a good first date shouldn’t be longer than two and a half hours.

No matter what, the guy must pay and definitely shouldn’t try to hold Miccio’s hand at any point.

“There is basically nothing I hate more than having my hand held,” she explains. “I don’t like to hold hands. Do not try to hold my hand.”

Miccio awards major points to guys who make sure she gets home safely after the date. Not checking in with the girl to ensure she gets home okay was already labeled a “major red flag” in another viral TikTok.

“It’s the polite thing to do,” Miccio says. “You’re sending a lady home on the streets — be like, ‘Hey, did you get home safe?’ or ‘Hey, [I] had a great time.’ Check in with me.”

For the most part, a lot of commenters sided with Miccio’s tips and dubbed them “fair.”

“Yeah, it’s a lot of ‘rules,’ but it’s literally a stranger you’re meeting up with, of course there’s gonna be some rules,” a commenter pointed out.

“Great tips!” a user chimed in. “You know what you want and what you’re looking for. No need to waste your time on someone who’s not right for you.”

Others seemed overwhelmed by the number of things to keep in mind.

“This just doesn’t sound fun at all,” someone wrote. “Dating is hard.”

“This list is so long,” another lamented.

“It’s a first date, not a marriage,” a commenter said. “Why make it so daunting?”
