Thrilling First Trailer For The Legend Of Tarzan Swings In

Following the first look at Alexander Skarsgard’s ripped new Tarzan, the first trailer for the reboot of the cinematic staple has arrived.

And it’s thrilling stuff.

Telling the story backwards, it picks up Skarsgard’s Earl Greystoke in Victorian London, years after his early upbringing by apes in the jungle.

He’s sent back to the Congo as an ‘emissary of parliament’, but soon has to rescue his beloved Jane (Margot Robbie) from the clutches of evil Belgian colonialist Captain Leon Rom, played by Christophe Waltz.

Elsewhere, there are roles for Djimon Hounsou as a tribal chief and Samuel L. Jackson as adventurer George Washington Williams.

Thanks to the eye of director David Yates (of 'Harry Potter’ fame), the scale is huge, and the landscape impressively realised.

He told USA Today: “It’s almost the opposite of the classic tale, where it’s about taming the beast. This is about a man who’s holding back and slowly as you peel off the layers, he reverts back to a more animalistic state and lets that side of his personality out.

“He has this wonderful quality of not quite belonging to one or the other [country]. Tarzan needs muscles, but it’s more a leaner, longer, more vertical modern man than the square-jawed stereotype we’re used to.”

It’s due out on July 8, 2016.
