Fayette coroner identifies three women fatally shot on Caywood Drive

Three women died in a fatal shooting on Lexington’s west side Wednesday afternoon, police said in a news release.

The Fayette Coroner’s office identified the women as Lisa Wilson, 65, Bryonny Wilson, 42, and Bronwyn Wilson, 38.

Officers were dispatched to the 1000 block of Caywood Drive around 4 p.m. to investigate a “disorder” with a gun. At the scene, police found three women with gunshot wounds, according to the release. They were pronounced dead at the scene.

11th District Urban County Council member Jennifer Reynolds said in a social media post that “it is with a heavy heart I share that we have had a horrific domestic violence incident in the Holiday Hills and Cardinal Valley area today.”

Reynolds did not elaborate.

The suspect, Steven Rubert Wilson, was arrested Wednesday. He’s related to the victims, according to an arrest citation.

Fayette County Coroner Gary Ginn told the Herald-Leader’s reporting partner, WKYT, that it was a “disturbing scene” and that the victims were all shot multiple times.

Ginn did not immediately return phone calls seeking comment.

Cassandra and Zak Vogl have lived in the neighborhood where the homicides occurred for three years. They said they were on their way home when the shootings occurred, and were told a neighbor was involved.

“I think hurt people hurt people, and my heart goes out to all the family involved ... you don’t know what’s going on, and it’s easy to label something, and we don’t know everything,” Cassandra Vogl said.

Zak Vogl said the incident was “a weird situation” but doesn’t make him concerned about overall safety in the area.

“Not obviously something you want around your neighborhood, but it’s not like it’s a super common thing either,” he said.

Hannah Sloan, Lexington Police Department spokesperson, told the H-L the incident is under investigation. Police will share more details when charges are filed, she said.

Counting the three deaths on Wednesday, there have been 11 homicides in Lexington in the month of May alone.
