Three things to know about Gamecock soccer stadium’s new video board

Stone Stadium, the home of South Carolina men’s and women’s soccer, is undergoing a very visible renovation.

Both teams shared a picture to Twitter on Friday of the skeleton of the current video board that’s being removed. The post included the teaser: “Out with the old, in (soon) with the new!”

Here are three things to know about Stone Stadium’s new video board:

Timeline: According to a USC athletics spokesman, the installation of the board is ongoing and the projected finish date for the project is Aug. 12. That aligns perfectly with the 2022 schedule for both the men’s and women’s teams.

Tony Annan will start his second season as head coach of the Gamecock men’s team Aug. 13 when South Carolina hosts Duke in an exhibition game. Shelley Smith and the women’s soccer team won’t play at home until their regular-season opener on Aug. 18 against defending national champion Florida State.

Location: The video board won’t be undergoing a dramatic location change. It will be moved forward so it “has better viewing angles throughout the stadium,” according to USC.

Size: The new video board will be held up by a single-post support structure and will 32 feet, 6 inches wide and 18 feet, 10 inches tall. By comparison, the Founders Park video board is 43 feet wide and 33.5 feet tall.

The exact cost of the of the video board was not immediately available.
