Three teenagers dead after car crashes into a tree in Rotherham

Three teenagers have died in a car accident after the vehicle they were in came off the road and struck a tree.

South Yorkshire Police were called at around 6.10am on Monday to reports of the crash in Rotherham involving a white Ford Fiesta.

The car had been travelling along a short 40mph stretch of country road on Kiveton Lane, close to the Todwick Court junction in Kiveton Park.

Two 19-year-olds and an 18-year-old inside the vehicle were pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

Their families have been informed and are being supported by specialist police officers.

Detectives have also appealed to the public for information.

Flowers have been left around the damaged tree in Kiveton Lane, which is on the edge of Kiveton Park village.

The wreckage of the vehicle was removed on Monday morning and police officers had left the area.

There was clear damage to the tree and part of a low wall nearby had been demolished.
