Three 18-wheelers hit Fort Worth police vehicle on icy highway, officials say

Two Fort Worth police officers were treated at a hospital after sustaining injuries on Interstate 20 early Thursday, officials said.

The Fort Worth Police Department said in a statement on Twitter that the two officers were responding to an accident on the highway when an 18-wheeler jackknifed into one of the patrol cars. Shortly after the officer got out, a second 18-wheeler hit the vehicle.

As both officers crossed the slippery surface of the highway to get to a grassy median, a third 18-wheeler struck the patrol vehicle.

The second officer injured his ankle on the ice, police said, but both were able to get back to the highway and check on those who were involved in the accidents.

According to Star-Telegram media partner WFAA-TV, both officers were taken to a local hospital for treatment.
