This Harry Potter Fan Theory Will Devastate You

We’ve seen plenty of fan theories come and go, but there’s something about the sad ones that stick with us.

Remember the one that ‘Finding Nemo’ is about grief and how Nemo doesn’t really exist? Or that Harry Potter is a story an abused boy imagines whilst locked under the stairs?

Picking up from the latter, we’re going to assume that one’s not true, because a Harry Potter superfan has uncovered something that’ll no doubt devastate ever Potter fan out there.

It comes courtesy of blogger Lily Evans, who made an interesting observation about the Resurrection Stone we witness Harry interact with.

We know that the people we see in it - in this case, Harry’s parents - are deceased, as we note they’re wearing the same clothes they had on when they died at the hands of Voldermort.

However, when we see Remus Lupin and Sirius Black (played by David Thewlis and Gary Oldman) in the Stone, they look different to how we’ve seen them appear in the film franchise.

They’re a lot younger and this is explicitly mentioned in the book:

“Sirius was tall and handsome, and younger by far than Harry had ever seen him in life. He loped with an easy grace, his hands in his pockets and a grin on his face.”

“Lupin was younger too, and much less shabby, and his hair was thicker and darker. He looked happy to be back in this familiar place, scene of so many adolescent wanderings.”

So what does it all mean?

Well, it implies the pair died all those years ago - on the inside at least - on that fateful night Voldermort gave Harry his scar. While physically surviving, the theory suggests losing their best friends - James and Lily Potter - and being betrayed by Peter Pettigrew killed them on the inside, destroying the essence of who they were.

That’s kind of hard to accept.

We’re fine, we’ve just got something in our eye.
