This common mistake may be the reason your hair is getting thinner

Every fashion magazine has had this quiz at one point or another. What does the way you part your hair say about you? Turns out, quite a bit.

And no, I’m not suggesting that if you have a deep side part you’re more outgoing then the girl with the centre part sitting next to you. What both these parts actually say about you, is that your hair is getting thinner.

That’s right. Parting your hair the same way every day actually makes it get thinner over time.

“The longer we wear the same part, the more we wear the hair down in that area and cause breakage,” Annie Rush, a hairstylist at Eva Scrivo Salon in New York City tells Allure.

This breakage can not only lead to hair thinning but also loss of hair. Carlos Wesley, a cosmetic surgeon and hair-loss specialist in New York City warns that women with traction alopecia – a form of hair loss caused by pulling or force – need to be particularly cautious of this.

“What starts as subclinical [not apparent] inflammation ends up becoming permanent, scarring hair loss,” he tells Allure.

Moral of the story? Swap out that part every couple of weeks. Not only will it be good for your hair but it will also add volume and give your hair an overall different look.
