Thilo Kehrer to West Ham transfer close as PSG defender travels to London ahead of potential medical

West Ham are close to signing Thilo Kehrer from Paris Saint-Germain as their transfer push ramps up in the final two weeks of the summer window.

Talks over the German defender have been ongoing, with an improved bid worth €12m (£10.1m) plus add-ons being tabled on Monday. PSG rejected West Ham's opening offer last week.

While an agreement is yet to be finalised between the clubs, Kehrer has been given permission to travel to London on Tuesday ahead of a potential medical.

West Ham hope that the 25-year-old, who has 20 senior international caps for Germany, can be signed and registered in time to play in their next Premier League fixture against Brighton at the London Stadium on Sunday.

The Hammers first host Danish outfit Viborg FF in the first leg of their Europa Conference League play-off tie on Thursday night.

Kehrer's arrival would help ease a defensive headache for West Ham manager David Moyes, who has had just one senior centre-back available for the first two matches of the new top-flight campaign.

Nayef Aguerd, a £30m arrival from French club Rennes in June, is currently sidelined after undergoing surgery on an ankle issue suffered in pre-season, while Craig Dawson has been missing with a thigh problem and Angelo Ogbonna is still working his way back to fitness after a long-term ACL injury.

Full-back Ben Johnson has had to deputise alongside Kurt Zouma for back-to-back defeats by Manchester City and Nottingham Forest.

Kehrer would become West Ham's sixth senior signing of an oft-frustrating summer window to date, following Aguerd, Alphonse Areola, Gianluca Scamacca and Flynn Downes. Ivorian winger Maxwel Cornet also arrived from Burnley in a £17.5m deal last week, making his debut with a late cameo off the bench in the 1-0 reverse at the City Ground.

The Irons are also pushing to sign Italian left-back Emerson Palmieri from Chelsea, while they have seen an opening bid rejected by Club Brugge for Belgian midfielder Hans Vanaken.
