"I have noticed that my honourable friend is shortly to appear on a Channel 4 programme called Celebrity First Dates. What I'm not sure about is whether my honourable friend is the celebrity or the first date," May remarked.

"I was a bit nervous about people being homophobic and people just not being very kind about it. Some people don't accept gay people in the same way as straight people. So it wasn't the right time during X Factor," she explained.
"Recently I was made an offer to do Celebrity First Dates, which I turned down, mainly because I didn't want to come out to the public in that way."
The regular First Dates returns to Channel 4 for its ninth series on Monday (September 18) at 10pm on Channel 4.
