The 'Force Awakens' Cast Reveals the Most Unexpected Famous 'Star Wars' Fans They've Encountered

Joseph Gordon-Levitt came dressed as Yoda. Sofia Vergara wore Princess Leia’s signature hair buns. Scrubs buds Zach Braff and Donald Faison geeked out all over the place. Other actors like Rainn Wilson (who also came in costume) and Eric Stonestreet tweeted out their approval. And that’s just the folks who got tickets to last night’s massive red-carpet spectacle that was the world premiere of Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

The Cult of Star Wars is, like the Force itself, everywhere — as the cast, especially newcomers like John Boyega, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, and Gwendoline Christie, has experienced. We asked them who has been the most surprising famous Star Wars fan they’ve encountered (watch above), and their answers were expectedly unpredictable, ranging from hip-hop stars to models to His Holiness (OK, we’re pretty sure Harrison Ford isn’t serious about that one).

Boyega, for instance, said he encountered Black Eyed Peas rapper-producer Will.i.am at the Met Gala in New York. “It was really crowded, and then I turned around and bumped into him and said, 'Oh sorry,’” he recalled. “He turned around and said, 'The black stormtrooper! I love you. It’s so crazy 'cause you’re here. And you’re the black stormtrooper!’”

Singer Michael Bublé fanboyed out to Ridley while working on a sketch with her on Saturday Night Live, and Wu-Tang Clan’s Method Man approached Driver at an event to profess his love for the movies.

“And as far as I’m concerned, the pope is just another Star Wars fan,” joked the reliably disingenuous Ford. “Who’s that on the phone again? Tell him I’m busy.”

Star Wars: The Force Awakens opens Friday.
