If you’re swapping your old car for a new ride, you might be disappointed when you realize how little the dealership offers you to trade it in.

Used cars typically fetch more if you sell privately, but success depends largely on the type of vehicle.

Rubrikk Group AS, a Norwegian tech company specializing in classified ads, looked at listings on its Canadian site called allclassifieds.ca. It looked at cars listed during the first six months of 2019 that had been put up at least 500 times and recorded how long those had been active.

Second-hand Dodge Caravans seem to just fly off the lots. The popular minivan was the fastest-selling vehicle, typically changing hands within two days of hitting the market. The compact Toyota Echo was basically tied with the Caravan, followed closely by the Chevrolet C/K pickup at 3 days.

If the top three slowest sellers are any indication, German cars can be a tough bet. Mercedez-Benz’s entry level GLA took 66 days to sell. Rival Porsche’s iconic 911 sports coupe came in second at 68 days, followed by Audi’s three-row Q7 SUV at 56.

It turns out that the best-selling cars actually aren’t the first to go. Honda Civics took the top spot, with 25,582 units sold on the site. A pair of full-size pickups, the Ford F-Series (22,500) and Ram 1500 (14,581), were second and third.
