The newest street will have a locally historic name — eventually. As explained by director of operations Greg Storms, people who want to build homes on this new street need a name for emergency services if they are to get building permits. The process hit a bit of a snag at the May 11 council meeting. Instead of the planned recommendation that the new name be MacPhail Street in honour of a family of Second World War veterans, a new list will be sent to the County of Middlesex for approval. The i

Liverpool fans attempting to get into the Champions League final were locked out the stadium and “tear-gassed by French police” as ticketing issues saw build-up to the game descend into chaos. "These are only patchy bits of information but we can confirm that tear gas was used outside the stadium this evening, there has been a delay to kick-off." More than 50,000 Reds supporters were estimated to have descended on Paris to soak up the atmosphere ahead of their club's third Champions League final in four seasons.

Nobody moves to a new community or opens a business because they like a municipal logo. But logos, signs and marketing campaigns do plant an impression in people’s minds. When a family considers where they are going to live, having a pre-conceived notion about a town or region plays a large part on where they are going to start looking. Southwest Middlesex has so far spent $28,505 to help paint the picture of what they want current and possible future residents to envision when they think of the
The final victim of the supermarket shooting massacre in Buffalo, New York, was laid to rest Saturday, as the country reels from another mass shooting. Vice President Kamala Harris and second gentleman Douglas Emhoff attended the memorial service for Ruth Whitfield Saturday afternoon at Mt. Olive Baptist Church in Buffalo. Warnings of critical fire conditions blanketed much of the U.S. Southwest on Saturday as crews in northern New Mexico worked to stop the growth of the nation's largest active wildfire. The 7-week-old fire, the largest in New Mexico history, has burned 491 square miles (1,272 square kilometers) of forest in rugged terrain east of Santa Fe since being started in April by two planned burns. Crews were patrolling partially burned areas and clearing and cutting containment lines, including primary ones near the fire as bulldozers scraped backup lines farther away.
Champions League final kick-off has been delayed by at least 30 minutes to allow fans stuck outside to enter the stadium. UEFA announced the decision was due to "fans arriving late at the stadium", but thousands are reported to have been queueing to get inside the Stade de France for upwards of three hours. A few ticketless fans were seen trying to gain access to the Stade de France, despite a permanent fence being in place around the perimeter.
Caterpillars of the spongy moth, commonly known as the gypsy moth, have returned. Mayor Joanne Vanderheyden asked director of community services Robert Lilbourne at the May 16 council meeting to talk about what the effect and effort is in Strathroy-Caradoc after people started calling and posting on social media about another infestation. Lilbourne said it is a cyclical system. “The population will start to die off after five to seven years. That means right now we’re at the peak of the infestat

Countries around the world on Saturday adopted an initial U.S.-led reform of the rules around disease outbreaks, known as the International Health Regulations (IHR), the United States said. The amendments, adopted at the World Health Organization (WHO) assembly, were agreed at a meeting seen as a once-in-a-generation chance for the U.N. health agency to strengthen its role after some 15 million deaths during the COVID-19 pandemic. The changes sought by Washington, and backed by others such as Japan and the European Union, mark a first step in a broader reform of the IHR, which set out countries' legal obligations around disease outbreaks, expected to take up to two years.
The drawings for phase two improvements at Kerwood Park have been approved. Added to the plan is a pickleball court beside the basketball court, assuming it fits in the approved budget. Also coming is a possible outdoor ice rink built with the help of the Optimist Club if an agreement is passed this summer. Ball diamonds work would include new red clay, fencing and lighting — no more centre field light standard obstacle. Removing the light standard also allows two full-size soccer fields. Dugout
