TCU baseball lands two players on the preseason All-Big 12 team

TCU baseball didn’t have any players land on the preseason All-Big 12 team last year. The Horned Frogs went on to win the league’s regular-season and tournament championships.

TCU wasn’t snubbed this year. Third baseman Brayden Taylor and left-hander Austin Krob were among the players selected to the preseason All-Big 12 team released Wednesday.

The top honor went to Texas Tech’s Jace Jung, who was named the league’s preseason player of the year, and Texas starting pitcher Pete Hansen, who was named the league’s preseason pitcher of the year.

The honorees were selected in a vote of the league’s head coaches, who could not vote for their own players.

Taylor, the Big 12 freshman of the year in 2021, was a unanimous selection to the team. He is coming off a season in which he hit .324 with a team-leading 12 home runs. He also had 53 RBIs and was successful in 15 of 16 stolen base attempts in 58 games.

Krob, meanwhile, earned second-team all-conference honors in 2021. He went 8-1 with a 3.81 ERA over 16 starts. He struck out 96 batters in 85 innings pitched. Krob is expected to be TCU’s Friday night starter this season.

TCU opens its season against San Diego State in the MLB4 Tournament in Scottsdale, Arizona, on Feb. 18. That will be the debut game of coach Kirk Saarloos.
