Canadian dollar ends daily losing streak as bond yields climb
The Canadian dollar edged up against its U.S. counterpart on Monday and bond yields climbed to multi-month highs, with the currency recouping a small part of its recent declines that were owed in part to the threat of U.S. trade tariffs. The loonie was trading 0.1% higher at 1.4405 to the U.S. dollar, or 69.42 U.S. cents, after moving in a range of 1.4393 to 1.4447. "It does feel like the market is paying a lot of tribute to the potential incoming tariffs from the United States and also what that could mean for the Bank of Canada," said Bipan Rai, head of ETF and structured solutions strategy at BMO Global Asset Management.

Company linked to Alex Jones doubles offer to buy Infowars after failed bankruptcy auction
A company linked to conspiracy theorist Alex Jones is now offering over $7 million to buy his Infowars platforms, more than double what it proposed when it lost to The Onion satirical news outlet in a bankruptcy auction that was later voided by a judge, a lawyer in the case said Monday. First United American Companies, which runs a website in Jones’ name that sells nutritional supplements, submitted the new offer despite there being no official request to do so, Joshua Wolfshohl, an attorney for the trustee overseeing Jones' bankruptcy, told a bankruptcy court judge at a brief hearing in Houston. Wolfshohl said the trustee also is expecting a new offer soon from The Onion's parent company, Chicago-based Global Tetrahedron.

Bejeweled crown stolen from Virgin Mary statue at Philadelphia church
A man broke into a Philadelphia church and stole a 125-year-old bejeweled crown from atop a marble statue of the Virgin Mary, city police said Monday. The burglary at St. John the Evangelist Roman Catholic Church occurred around 1:10 a.m. Saturday when the thief smashed through a stained-glass window, police said. The man then climbed into the upper nave of the church and went straight to the statue and crown, the church’s archivist, Anne Kirkwood, told The Philadelphia Inquirer.
