Trump's budget nominee and 'Project 2025' author Russ Vought faces senators
President-elect Donald Trump's pick for the top budget office, Russ Vought, will face senators on Wednesday for potential confirmation to a crucial post for Trump's goals to reshape and downsize the federal government. Trump in November tapped Vought to again lead the Office of Management and Budget, as he did in the Republican's first administration, a posting central to setting the president's budget and organizing the federal government's processes and spending. Vought authored portions of the approximately 900-page conservative policy playbook called "Project 2025" that Trump eventually distanced himself from during the presidential campaign due to some of its hard-right proposals.

Morning Bid: Inflation offers crumbs of comfort, big banks report
This week's initial sweep of inflation readouts has calmed New Year market turbulence, but the main event is yet to come and it's harder to dispel concern about the rest of the year. With the critical U.S. consumer price report for December due later on Wednesday, the advance soundings at home and abroad were somewhat encouraging - both U.S. producer price and British consumer price inflation for last month undershot forecasts. Impressive headlines aside, the details of the U.S. PPI were far more mixed and sticky components - such as air fares - may yet irk the Federal Reserve's favored PCE inflation gauge.

Ms Harvey kept up the ruse as she dispatched officers to the property, asking the woman if she or her children had been threatened.
