Taylor Swift Loves Ian McKellen and Patrick Stewart

It looks like a couple of Sirs are the newest addition to Taylor Swift’s star squad.

It all began when Sir Ian McKellen (who stars in the upcoming drama Mr. Holmes) stopped by Yahoo studios in New York on Wednesday. The Tony-winning actor treated us to a very dramatic reading of several smash-hit pop songs, including Swift’s “Bad Blood,” which you can watch above. McKellen’s pal and X-Men compatriot Sir Patrick Stewart responded during an episode of NPR’s show Ask Me Another, when he gave a spoken-word rendition of another Swift hit, “Blank Space.”

After NPR posted an excerpt of Stewart’s twist on the song, the social media-obsessed icon tweeted at Swift, asking if he and McKellen’s performances qualified them to join Swift’s ever-growing posse of celeb BFFs:

Swift, always mindful of respecting showbiz royalty, did him one better, professing her admiration for McKellen and Stewart’s friendship using her keen photo collaging skills:

Stewart then responded as any human being would at getting the Swiftian call:

McKellen and Stewart’s friendship has bloomed in the last two decades, thanks to their starring roles as Magneto and Professor X, respectively, in the X-Men film franchise. But as McKellen has pointed out, most recently in his Reddit AMA yesterday, the two go all the way back to 1976, when they worked together on Shakespearean theater in Stratford-Upon-Avon in England.

McKellen also noted in that AMA that he “stole” a few gold coins and the key to Frodo’s house in Bag End from the set of the Lord of the Rings and Hobbit movies (hey, he worked on them for a decade!), which will come as news to director Peter Jackson.

Good luck getting those back, Mr. Jackson: McKellen now has Taylor Swift on his side.
