Morning Bid: BOJ decides - 'dovish hike' incoming?
Investors divert their focus away from Washington on Friday for the first time since President Donald Trump's inauguration on Monday, towards Tokyo and the Bank of Japan, which is widely expected to raise interest rates to a 17-year high of 0.5%. Assuming the BOJ does raise rates by a quarter of a percentage point - a 95% certainty, according to market pricing - that focus will narrow in even more on Governor Kazuo Ueda's press conference and the signals he sends about future policy steps. The ideal scenario for asset prices in Japan and beyond would probably be a "dovish hike," with Ueda more inclined to cool rather than fuel investor expectations about the pace of further tightening, even though wage growth is gathering steam.

Italy's top court upholds Amanda Knox's conviction for falsely accusing innocent man of murder
Italy’s highest court on Thursday confirmed a slander conviction against U.S. defendant Amanda Knox for accusing an innocent man of murdering her British flatmate 17 years ago in a sensational case that polarized trial watchers on both sides of the Atlantic. Knox had appealed the conviction based on a European Court of Human Rights ruling that said her rights had been violated by police failure to provide a lawyer and adequate translator during a long night of questioning just days after Meredith Kercher's murder in the university town of Perugia. The lawyers for both Knox and the man she wrongly accused, Patrick Lumumba, had gone home during deliberations.

Why Is Everyone Obsessed With Netflix’s ‘The Night Agent’?
Ever read an airport novel that’s hard to put down, but also nearly impossible to retain once you do? Sometimes books or movies operate a bit like the bus from Speed: They have to maintain a certain forward momentum or they’ll detonate, leaving behind only smoldering ash. (It’s a great paradox that Speed itself is not one of these, merely a handy metaphor for describing that mechanism in others.) On its own, that quality is fine; some entertainment is here for a good time, not for a long time. B
