Tampa Bay Buccaneers at San Francisco 49ers: Predictions, picks and odds for NFL Week 14 matchup

In perhaps the most anticipated — and most unpredictable — game on the Week 14 slate, third-string QB Brock Purdy leads the San Francisco 49ers (8-4) against Tom Brady's Tampa Bay Buccaneers (6-6).

Purdy is taking over for Jimmy Garoppolo, who is out for the season with an injury. You'll remember Garoppolo took over for Trey Lance, who is also out for the season with an injury. Can last year's Mr. Irrelevant lead the 49ers past the Buccaneers, who are desperately trying to hold onto the NFC South lead? The game kicks off Sunday at 4:25 p.m. ET from Levi's Stadium.

Lorenzo Reyes: Buccaneers 27, Saints 20

Even with Purdy starting, I actually feel great about the Niners in this spot because they rely on their system more than on individual players. This team is built on its defense and offensive line. The Buccaneers are a shell of their previous versions and simply not reliable at this point.

Richard Morin: 49ers 24, Buccaneers 17

The Buccaneers' already-anemic running game will have an even tougher time against the San Francisco defense, forcing Brady to play hero ball for much of this game. Meanwhile, Purdy should be able to do just enough against a thin Tampa Bay secondary to pick up the win. It should also be noted the Buccaneers are on short rest while the 49ers play their second consecutive game at home.

Bet Purdy over Brady at your own peril. Coming off a harrowing escape against the Saints on Monday night, Tampa Bay’s defense clamps down on the former third-stringer and Brady moves a step closer to another postseason.
